Digital collection
The National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam looks after a collection of circa 350,000 objects and more than 60,000 books about the maritime history of the Netherlands. The museum has registered its entire collection in a database and provides information and images from this database on this website for research purposes.
Library
Books and publications published since 1850 can be studied in the reading room of the museum library. The museum does not provide a lending service. Earlier publications are kept in the museum depot and can only be studied upon request. Students and researchers can send a request to study these objects.
Use of images
More than 87 percent of the collection has currently been photographed. Digital images are available for free download for personal use and research purposes. If you need higher resolution images, these can be requested from the museum via a order form. There are no additional costs. You will receive an email with a download link. Please allow up to 4 weeks for delivery of the requested images. For larger orders or if new images need to be made, this could take longer than 4 weeks. In those cases, the museum will contact you directly.
Your help needed
The National Maritime Museum continually improves the description of the museum objects in its care, and we invite you to help us improve it even further. Send an email to bibliotheek@hetscheepvaartmuseum.nl with the object number. This can be used by the registrators to improve the published information.
